Be careful with how you hold the razor so you don’t slice your skin. I focus on my chin/jawline, cheeks, and upper lip. Holding the skin taught, I do short, 45-degree angled strokes against my skin and watch the magic happen as the hair dirt and oil start to scrape away. Post shower, I’ll hold off on any moisturizers or serums so I can get to work shaving. Even on my sensitive skin, I don’t find dermaplaning to cause any redness or inflammation but again, everyone’s skin is different so keep that in mind. If you are on a time crunch and feeling extra hairy on the face, go for it in the morning – whatever works for you. I like to give my skin a chance to “breathe” after dermaplaning instead of going right into my makeup routine. I typically shave my face after a pre-bedtime shower at night. To start, you want to work on a clean/dry face, free of my regular skincare products. I will say though I’m not opposed to a chemical peel or facial at a spa one day in the future – I love to be pampered and rubbed! But as I said, my budget doesn’t allow for that so I’ll spend the $5 and do it myself at home. If you are able to go to a dermatologist or licensed esthetician for this treatment then I’d 100% say go for it! I’ve personally never been to one but I have friends that have and swear by it for their skin. On top of leaving the surface of the skin feeling soft and silky and removing dead skin cells, dermaplaning also makes your skin visibly brighter and fresh. You physically exfoliate the skin to remove fine facial hair and dead skin. It exfoliates your skin and allows for a smoother, more even application of product/makeup. You take a sharp blade or razor and gently scrape off the dead layer of skin and peach fuzz on your face. What Is Dermaplaning?ĭermaplaning is basically shaving your face. And I promise it’s easier than you think. With the right tools and preparation, you can say goodbye to those fine hairs and gently remove dead skin in a flash, right in your own home. For a long time, I always thought that you could only have dermaplaning treatments administered at a spa or by a specialist.
